Privacy Policy
The short version.
- No analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no third-party SDK that collects data.
- Your lectures and notes stay on your device, or in your own iCloud.
- With a cloud engine, the content you choose to process is sent to that provider — and only for that request.
- The managed engine passes through a relay we operate, which forwards your request to the AI provider and counts your monthly allowance. It keeps no content.
- With the local engine and on-device transcription, nothing leaves your device at all.
1. Who is responsible
AI University is developed and published by Alessandro Ferdinando Verrengia, an individual developer based in Italy. For any question about this policy or your data: aiuniversity.support@gmail.com.

None of this is transmitted to us. We have no way to read it.
3. What leaves your device, and when
Speech-to-text depends on the transcription you choose in Settings:
- Whisper (WhisperKit) runs entirely on your device: the audio does not leave it.
- Apple Speech (the default on iPhone, iPad and Mac) uses Apple's speech recognition, which can send the audio to Apple's servers, under Apple's terms.
- Voxtral (Mistral AI) sends the lecture audio to Mistral, France (EU). It is the default on the desktop app, and it is billed per minute of audio, to your plan's allowance or to your own Mistral account.
Beyond that, what changes between engines is where the notes are generated:

The app shows you which of these applies before every run, and asks you to confirm. If you choose an engine that uses your own API key, the processing happens under your contract with that provider: the way they handle your data is governed by their policy, not by ours.
Provider policies, for reference: Mistral AI · Google Gemini API · Alibaba Model Studio. These change over time; check them before entrusting sensitive material to a cloud engine.
4. The relay for the managed engine
The managed engine is the one you can use without supplying an API key. To make that possible we operate a small relay: the app sends your request there, and the relay forwards it to Mistral using our own credentials.
It exists for two reasons that cannot be solved on your device: the API key has to be kept somewhere you cannot read it, and the monthly allowance included with your plan has to be counted somewhere you cannot reset it.
What passes through it: the transcript and the slide images of the lecture you are processing, the lecture audio if you use Voxtral transcription with the included processing, and, if you use the course library, the text of the course PDFs and the images of their pages with little text, for the time it takes to forward them. They are not written to disk and not kept.
What it stores: the identifier Apple gives us for your account, and how much of your monthly allowance you have used. Nothing else — no content, no lecture names, no notes. These records are deleted automatically after about two months.
The relay runs on Cloudflare Workers, in the EU region. It is used only by the managed engine and by Voxtral with the included processing: with your own API keys, or with the local engine and on-device transcription, the app does not contact it at all.
5. What we never receive
Apart from what the relay handles, described above, we do not collect: your notes, your API keys, your name, your email, your location, your device identifiers, your usage statistics, or crash reports. There is no analytics and no advertising SDK in the app.
6. Sign in with Apple
Signing in is optional and serves one purpose: anchoring the 3-day free trial so it cannot be restarted indefinitely. The app stores the opaque identifier Apple provides, plus the display name if you share it. Apple never gives us your real email address unless you choose to share it, and we do not ask for it.
You can sign out or delete this data at any time from Settings → Account & subscription.
7. Subscriptions and payments
Plus and Pro are auto-renewable subscriptions sold through the App Store. Apple handles the entire transaction. We never see your payment method, your billing address or your Apple Account. The app only asks the operating system whether an active subscription exists, and that check happens on the device.
8. iCloud
If you use the iCloud features, files go to your iCloud account, under your Apple ID. We have no access to it. Its handling is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
9. Legal roles under the GDPR
When you process a lecture, you are the data controller: you decide what material to process and for what purpose. The app is a technical tool acting on your instructions, and the AI provider you select acts as a sub-processor.
This matters in practice: lecture recordings can contain the voices and faces of teachers and other students. Making sure you are entitled to process that material — and that your institution allows it — is your responsibility. The app helps by telling you where the data goes, and by offering an engine where it goes nowhere.
10. Retention
Data stays on your device until you delete it: individual notes, subjects, or the whole app. We hold nothing, so there is nothing for us to retain or erase. Retention by a cloud provider you chose is governed by that provider's policy.
11. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase and port your data, and to object to its processing. Because everything lives on your own device and in your own iCloud, you exercise most of these rights directly: the files are yours, in open formats, and you can read, edit, export or delete them at any time.
For anything you cannot resolve on the device, write to aiuniversity.support@gmail.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority — in Italy, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
12. Deleting your data
Settings → Account & subscription → Delete account removes your Apple identifier, your display name and your trial data from the device and your iCloud Keychain. Notes and subjects are deliberately left alone: they are your files, not account data. Deleting the app removes everything it stored on the device.
Deleting the account does not cancel a subscription — that is done in the Settings app under your name → Subscriptions.
13. International transfers
The local engine involves no transfer. The managed engine processes within the European Union. If you choose Gemini or Qwen with your own key, your content may be processed outside the EU, under the terms of your account with that provider.
14. Children
The app is intended for university students and adult learners. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly process data relating to them.
15. Changes
If this policy changes substantially, the new version will be published here with a new date, and the app will ask you to accept the updated terms on launch.

Informativa sulla privacy
In breve.
- Niente analytics, niente pubblicità , niente tracciamento, nessun SDK di terzi che raccolga dati.
- Le tue lezioni e i tuoi appunti restano sul tuo dispositivo, o nel tuo iCloud.
- Con un motore cloud, il contenuto che scegli di elaborare viene inviato a quel provider — solo per quella richiesta.
- Il motore gestito passa da un ponte che gestiamo noi, che inoltra la richiesta al provider di IA e tiene il conto del credito mensile incluso nel tuo piano. Non conserva contenuti.
- Con il motore locale e la trascrizione sul dispositivo non esce assolutamente nulla dal dispositivo.

Niente di tutto questo ci viene trasmesso. Non abbiamo alcun modo di leggerlo.
3. Cosa esce dal dispositivo, e quando
La trascrizione del parlato dipende da quella che scegli in Impostazioni:
- Whisper (WhisperKit) gira interamente sul tuo dispositivo: l'audio non esce.
- Apple Speech (il predefinito su iPhone, iPad e Mac) usa il riconoscimento vocale di Apple, che può inviare l'audio ai server di Apple, alle condizioni di Apple.
- Voxtral (Mistral AI) invia l'audio della lezione a Mistral, Francia (UE). È il predefinito nell'app desktop e si paga a minuto di audio, sulla riserva del tuo piano o sul tuo account Mistral.
Per il resto, ciò che cambia tra i motori è dove vengono generati gli appunti:

L'app ti mostra quale di questi casi si applica prima di ogni elaborazione e ti chiede conferma. Se scegli un motore che usa la tua chiave API, l'elaborazione avviene nell'ambito del tuo contratto con quel provider: il trattamento è regolato dalla sua policy, non dalla nostra.
4. Il ponte per il motore gestito
Il motore gestito è quello che puoi usare senza fornire una chiave API. Perché sia possibile gestiamo un piccolo ponte: l'app gli manda la richiesta, e lui la inoltra a Mistral usando le nostre credenziali.
Esiste per due ragioni che sul tuo dispositivo non si possono risolvere: la chiave API va tenuta dove tu non puoi leggerla, e il credito mensile incluso nel tuo piano va contato dove tu non puoi azzerarlo.
Cosa ci passa attraverso: la trascrizione e le immagini delle slide della lezione che stai elaborando, l'audio della lezione se usi la trascrizione Voxtral con l'elaborazione inclusa e, se usi la biblioteca del corso, il testo dei PDF del corso e le immagini delle loro pagine con poco testo, per il tempo necessario a inoltrarli. Non vengono scritti su disco e non vengono conservati.
Cosa conserva: l'identificativo che Apple ci fornisce per il tuo account e quanto hai consumato del credito mensile. Nient'altro — nessun contenuto, nessun nome di lezione, nessun appunto. Questi dati vengono cancellati automaticamente dopo circa due mesi.
Il ponte gira su Cloudflare Workers, in regione UE. Lo usano solo il motore gestito e Voxtral con l'elaborazione inclusa: con le tue chiavi API, o con il motore locale e la trascrizione sul dispositivo, l'app non lo contatta affatto.
5. Cosa non riceviamo mai
A parte quanto gestisce il ponte, descritto sopra, non raccogliamo: i tuoi appunti, le tue chiavi API, il tuo nome, la tua email, la tua posizione, gli identificativi del dispositivo, statistiche d'uso o segnalazioni di crash. Nell'app non c'è nessun analytics e nessun SDK pubblicitario.
6. Sign in with Apple
L'accesso è facoltativo e ha un solo scopo: ancorare la prova gratuita di 3 giorni perché non possa essere riavviata all'infinito. L'app conserva l'identificativo opaco fornito da Apple e il nome, se scegli di condividerlo. Apple non ci comunica mai il tuo indirizzo email reale a meno che tu non scelga di condividerlo, e noi non lo chiediamo.
Puoi disconnetterti o eliminare questi dati quando vuoi da Impostazioni → Account e abbonamento.
7. Abbonamenti e pagamenti
Plus e Pro sono abbonamenti a rinnovo automatico venduti tramite l'App Store. Apple gestisce l'intera transazione. Non vediamo mai il tuo metodo di pagamento, i dati di fatturazione o il tuo account Apple. L'app chiede soltanto al sistema operativo se esiste un abbonamento attivo, e questa verifica avviene sul dispositivo.
8. iCloud
Se usi le funzioni iCloud, i file finiscono nel tuo account iCloud, sotto il tuo Apple ID. Noi non vi abbiamo accesso. Il trattamento è regolato dall'informativa privacy di Apple.
9. Ruoli ai sensi del GDPR
Quando elabori una lezione, il titolare del trattamento sei tu: decidi quale materiale trattare e per quale finalità . L'app è uno strumento tecnico che agisce su tue istruzioni, e il provider di IA che selezioni agisce da sub-responsabile.
Non è un dettaglio formale: le registrazioni delle lezioni possono contenere voci e volti di docenti e altri studenti. Assicurarti di avere il diritto di trattare quel materiale — e che il tuo ateneo lo consenta — è una tua responsabilità . L'app ti aiuta dicendoti dove vanno i dati, e offrendoti un motore dove non vanno da nessuna parte.
10. Conservazione
I dati restano sul tuo dispositivo finché non li elimini: i singoli appunti, le materie, o l'intera app. Noi non conserviamo nulla, quindi non c'è nulla da cancellare presso di noi. La conservazione da parte di un provider cloud che hai scelto è regolata dalla policy di quel provider.
11. I tuoi diritti
Il GDPR ti riconosce il diritto di accesso, rettifica, cancellazione e portabilità , e il diritto di opporti al trattamento. Poiché tutto risiede sul tuo dispositivo e nel tuo iCloud, eserciti gran parte di questi diritti direttamente: i file sono tuoi, in formati aperti, e puoi leggerli, modificarli, esportarli o eliminarli quando vuoi.
Per ciò che non puoi risolvere sul dispositivo, scrivi a aiuniversity.support@gmail.com. Hai inoltre diritto di proporre reclamo all'autorità di controllo: in Italia il Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
12. Cancellare i tuoi dati
Impostazioni → Account e abbonamento → Elimina account rimuove l'identificativo Apple, il nome e i dati della prova dal dispositivo e dal tuo portachiavi iCloud. Appunti e materie restano volutamente al loro posto: sono file tuoi, non dati di account. Disinstallando l'app viene rimosso tutto ciò che aveva salvato sul dispositivo.
La cancellazione dell'account non disdice l'abbonamento: quello si gestisce nell'app Impostazioni, sotto il tuo nome → Abbonamenti.
13. Trasferimenti extra-UE
Il motore locale non comporta alcun trasferimento. Il motore gestito elabora all'interno dell'Unione Europea. Se scegli Gemini o Qwen con la tua chiave, i tuoi contenuti possono essere elaborati fuori dall'UE, secondo le condizioni del tuo account presso quel provider.
14. Minori
L'app è pensata per studenti universitari e adulti. Non è rivolta ai minori e non trattiamo consapevolmente dati che li riguardino.
15. Modifiche
Se questa informativa cambia in modo sostanziale, la nuova versione sarà pubblicata qui con una nuova data e l'app ti chiederà di accettare i termini aggiornati all'avvio.
